Final Clay Piece
For my final clay piece I decided to make a pineapple candle holder. I used the pinch pot method and cut holes into the pineapple in order to let light pass through. Overall I am happy with my piece although I wish that the base of the pineapple turned out brighter. I had to mix a bunch of glazes to get even close to yellow, but it didn't really work out.
Texture
For this project I used an exacto-knife and the score and slip technique in order to add texture to the egg. The sculpture is made out of porcelain. I was going for wavy tentacle like texture. I thought that this design would bring out shadows really well.
Styrogami
For this project I used an exacto-knife to carve away at the Styrofoam. Then I used glue to reattach the pieces to form a sculpture. I wanted this piece to have different levels. In order to do this I added hidden aspects to my piece and added multiple layers.
Capturing Emotion- Giroctopus
I used multiple techniques while sculpting this project. In order to make the body and head of my piece I used pinch to hallow out the spheres. To make the neck of my piece I used the coil technique and then flattened it a little bit to make it more sturdy. I successfully captured amusement in my piece, because the piece is amusing and entertaining. The final piece will be very colorful, silly, and unusual which will capture the viewer. Using clay to create my sculpture allowed me to incorporate realistic aspects into my piece, while also having abnormal features. For instance, the clay giraffe looks seemingly normal, but once the feathers and ribbons are added it will become much more unusual. The process of creating my sculpture involved a lot of trial and error. I started by sketching out how i wanted my piece to look. The part that i really struggled with was getting the neck to stay up right and support the head. I had to shorten the neck add extra clay to the bottom of the sculpture to make it stay up right.
Cone Cave
My group members and I folded zillions of cones and glued them to white poster board. Then we taped the poster boards to the ceiling and the installation was put up. It was meant to resemble a cave. I am really happy with the piece, although I would have liked to be able to hide the tape or maybe use glue.
Flipped
This sculpture is meant to represent the moment one's life is flipped upside down. It portrays the feeling of complete change and instability. It was really difficult to get the plaster to cover the piece completely, and at the same time hold the piece up.
